the function of the connecting rod is to convert liner motion of the piston into rotary motion of the crankshaft. Parts, Function, and Connecting rod bearings
What is Connecting Rod: How it Works?
the function of the connecting rod is to convert liner motion (Reciprocating) of the piston into rotary motion of the crankshaft. the connecting rod usually has I-beam cross-section and is made of forget steel Aluminium alloy is also used for connecting rods.
the connecting rod is the connecting between the piston and the crankshaft. it joint the piston pin with the crankpin
Small End of the connecting rod is connected to the piston pin.
Big End to the connecting rod is connected to the crank pin.
there are Two types of Small End and Big End Bearing
Small end And Big End slide (Split) type bearings are used. These bearings have a (Two halves) or groove the connecting rod journal to turn inside the bearing. the clearance is normally filled with oil to prevent metal to metal contact that carries engine oil to the inside of the bearing and lubricates the bearing to act as friction and wear tear.
NOTE :- The Crankshaft end of the connecting rod is the rod big end the piston end is the small end.
