Car Engine Exhaust System working process
Exhaust System
The Air-Fuel mixture Burns in the combustion chamber pressure rises and the piston gets power impulse by which it moves downward giving the motion to crankshaft for continuous running the engine the fresh charge is to come over again inside the cylinder and the burnt gasses are to be removed from the cylinder. the exhaust system collects the exhaust gases from the cylinder and conducts them to the rear of the vehicle
The exhaust Pipe or multifier inlet pipe is connects the exhaust manifold and the muffler. on other side of the muffler a tail pipe or outlet pipe is connected which discharges the exhaust gases to the atmosphere

Exhaust Manifold
The Exhaust manifold collect the exhaust gases from each exhaust port of the various cylinder. the exhaust manifold is a tube carrying the exhaust gases away from the engine cylinders. the sound waves and exhaust pass from exhaust manifold to catalytic converter through a pipe. the exhaust manifold is usually made of cast iron. it is bolted to the side of the cylinder block
Exhaust Pipe
the exhaust pipe connects to the outlet from the engine exhaust manifold. both the exhaust pipes and muffler are usually mounted so as to eliminate metal to metal contact and to prevent the transfer of vibration and exhaust noise to the car
Muffler
If the High pressure exhaust gases were allowed to enter atmosphere directly from the exhaust manifold a loud unpleasant noise would be heard like firing of a gun. this noise is due to the large difference in pressure between the exhaust gases and the atmosphere
The function of the muffler is to reduce the pressure of the exhaust gases sufficiently to permit them to be discharged to the atmosphere silently. to reduce the pressures the exhaust gases are permitted to expand slowly and toc cool in the muffler
Catalytic converter
The hot gases entering inside the catalytic converter consists of a misture Carbon monoxide (CO) , Unburned Hydrocarban(HC) and oxides of nitrogen (Nox) which are harmful to the environment
Tail pipe:-
the exhaust gases and sound waves move out of the tail pipe into the atmosphere
