Flywheel is a machine member which avoids fluctuation of energy in a Engine or in reciprocating compressor & pumps.
Flywheel | Engine Flywheel | How the flywheel can work
The power impulses overlap the flow of power from the piston to the crankshaft is not smooth each power stroke delivers a sudden power impulse to the crankshaft this causes the crankshaft to try to speed up during the other three piston stroke the crankshaft a damper on the front and a flywheel on the rear Helps Keep it Turning Smoothly.
on vehicle with a manual transmission the heavy metal flywheel helps smooth out the power flow. it resists any sudden change the flywheel also seves as the driving member of the flywheel has a ring of teeth on its outer rim A small pinion Gear on the starting motor meshes with these ring gear teeth when the starting motor meshes with these ring gear teeth when the starting motor meshes with these ring- gear teeth when the starting moter operates. this rotates. this rotates the flywheel and crankshaft to start the engine
The Flywheel and pressure plate are Driving members they attach to and rotate with the engine Crankshaft.
Flywheel Stores Energy During power- stroke & gives energy During Suction compression & exhoust energy
Application of flywheel :-
- Flywheel is used in I.C Engine
- It also used in stream engine
- It is used in balancing of reciprocating compression & pump
