The all electric Motocompacto tiny mini-scooter

In 1981, Honda introduced an innovative concept to the world – the Motocompo, a compact, foldable scooter specifically designed to fit inside subcompact cars. While this revolutionary scooter captured attention, it was sadly discontinued just two years after its debut. Nevertheless, Honda has revisited this unique concept over the years, leaving a lasting impact on its subsequent projects.

Fast forward to today, and Honda has unveiled its latest creation, the all-new Motocompacto, an electric scooter that continues the legacy of its predecessor while embracing sustainability with zero carbon emissions.

Crafted by the skilled engineers at Honda’s facilities in Ohio and California, the Motocompacto boasts a host of original designs, resulting in the issuance of an impressive 32 individual patents during its development. This lightweight marvel tips the scales at a mere 41 pounds (19 kilograms) and, when in use, measures 38 inches (965 millimeters) in length. However, its true brilliance shines when it’s folded up, reducing its dimensions to a compact 28 inches (736 millimeters).

Honda envisions the Motocompacto as the ideal companion for navigating college campuses or leisurely rides through parks. With a top speed of 15 MPH and a peak output of 490W, it’s not designed for highway cruising but serves as a nimble and eco-friendly alternative to traditional foot-powered commuting.

Charging the Motocompacto is a breeze, requiring just three and a half hours for a full charge, and it can be conveniently charged using a standard 110-volt outlet found across the United States.

Nick Ziraldo, the project lead and design engineering unit leader, emphasized, “Motocompacto is easy to use and fun to ride, but was also designed with safety, durability, and security in mind.” The scooter features a robust heat-treated aluminum frame and wheels, along with a bright LED headlight and taillight for visibility. Additional safety measures include side reflectors and a welded steel lock loop on the kickstand, which is compatible with most bike locks.

Priced at an attractive $995 USD, Honda’s Motocompacto will be available for purchase online and at Honda and Acura retailers starting in November. This modern reinterpretation of a classic concept promises not only convenience and efficiency but also a sustainable and eco-conscious mode of personal transportation.
