Gear Box, Function Working Processes
Any vehicle needs more torque while running from the start, lifting the load or climbing uphill. This is the main reason for installing a gearbox. That can increase the engine power ie torque. And the vehicle can be driven according to the road and load in every condition. The engine needs a lot of power to drive a parked car.
And in such a situation the speed of the train is not important. But when a car is moving at a high speed at some level. Then it is better to use the work torque at a higher speed than to apply more torque on the wheels.
The engine is not able to work in such a large speed range. And so in vehicles, a set of wheels is placed between the engine and the wheels, which is called the transmission system or gear box.
Gear Box | Transmission Box
The Purpose of the transmission into provide high torque at the time of starting, hill climbing, acceleration and pulling a load when a vehicle is starting from rest hill climbing acceleration and meeting other resistance high torque is required at the driving wheel
Types Of transmission
-
1) Manual Transmission Box or Manual Gear Box
- 1) Sliding Mesh Gear
- 2) Constant Mesh Gear
- 3) Synchromesh Gear
- 4) Epicyclic Gear Box
- 5)Four Speed Gear Box
-
2) Automatic transmission Box
- 1) Hydromantic Drive |
- 2) Torque Converter Transmission
1) Manual Transmission Box or Manual Gear Box
1) Sliding Mesh Gear ;-
It is a Simple Types of gear Box. the arrangment of gear in netural position. the clutch gear is rigidly fixed to the clutch shaft. it remain always connected to the drive gear of the clutch shaft. it remain always connecting to the drive gear of the counter shaft three other gears are also rigidly fixed and one reverse speed gears
2) Constant Mesh Gear:-
In This types of gear Box. all the gears of the main shaft are in constant mesh with the corresponding gears of the counter shaft two dog clutches are provided on the main shaft. dog clutch can slide on the shaft and rotate with it all the gears on the counter shaft are rigidly fixed with it when he left hand dog is obtained similarly by sliding the right hand dog clutch to the left and right
3) Synchromesh Gear:-
The synchronize gear box is similar to the constant mesh gear box but the synchronize gear box is provided wit a synchronize device by which two gear to be engage are first brouth into friction contact which equilizer their speed after which they are engaged smoothly in most of the cars the synchronize gear box are not fitted to all the gears. they are fitted only on the top gears reverse gear and in some cases the first gear do not have synchronize device, since they are intended to be engaged when the vehicle is stationary.
4) Epicyclic Gear Box:-
The epicyclic or sun and planet type gear box uses no sliding dogs or gears to engage, but different gear speed are obtained by merely tightening brake bends on the gear drums which simplify gear changing
5)Four Speed Gear Box:-
Four Speed Gear Box Using Synchromesh system in all the four forward speed readers will note from the figure that the clutch shaft drive the countershaft drive gear through main drive gear the first second and third sped gears on the main shaft are in constant mesh with their corresponding gear on the gear box is in natural since no power is transmitting to the main shaft.
2) Automatic transmission Box
- The hydromantic transmissions are termed fully automatic transmissions. They have essentially three or four-speed and reverse epicyclic gearboxes with brakes and clutches operated by oil pressure. These are controlled by the joint action of a governor, whose speed is proportional to that of the car. Valve actuated transmission is currently
- 2) Torque Converter Transmission:- A torque converter is device which performs function similar to that of a gear box. It’s Increase the torque while reducing the speed but where as gear box provides only a small no of fix rate. the torque converter is designed to obtain a mechanical advantages or gear ratio . It provides a maximum gear ratio starting from rest and gradually decrease that ratio as the vehicle gain speed
